oh what fun

We had a STORM! With Tornadoes! Right close. Eeeeeek!
I actually had just gotten my freebie emergency alert radio in the mail a couple days before and hadn't even taken it out of the box yet, but when I realized the kiddos bus was already 15 minutes late and ventured a look-see out the window, I hurried and plugged that bad boy in!
Tornado's a comin'! Tornado's a comin'!!!
So I flipped on the TV and checked out the radar thingy. I watched it approaching and called Brian at work who said that everyone at the plant was shut into this one room (4,000 peeps!) and that his co-worker got a call from her son who goes to my kiddos school and rides a bus home. The kids are all waiting out the storm at the High School. At least they were together and hopefully putting their sibling rivalry aside to comfort/reassure one another. I really wanted them home though.
I called Julie up the road from me to make sure she knew, 'cause last time she was hanging out on her bed with a bowl of soup and a movie and barely made it to her bathroom when the tornado hit and blew out her bedroom window! Eeeeek! She knew.
Erin and I gathered up a bunch of snacks and flashlights and headed to the basement, where she promptly opened all the food by herself (she was very proud) and I promptly went to the window (duh) to see what was going on. It started to hail like CRAZY! It was awesome. And I can only say that because nothing bad happened. We only got the outside bit of it and no real damage done. I did find a shingle in the driveway today though. And Boy did it smell like pine! Loved it - 'cause nothing bad happened. Except Brian said it blew off three doors at the plant.
He's about 7 minutes away from home.
Here are some pictures.

Seriously. How cool does that look.
Except the landscaping. We still have a ton of work there.

I stuck my foot out there so you could see the size of the ice balls in relation to a size 8.
I just happened to have painted those little piggies the day before. I usually don't in the winter because I'm always wearing socks, but I felt I needed a little hidden color. Like a secret. The secret is out. oh well. It's just toes.
So goes the excitement of a Mormon girls 'wild' side.
Painted toenails in the winter...

accumulation of hail stones on the deck

Oooooo. Eerie. See the swing?

Don't look into the sun too long. You'll go blind.

do you love the music? Lord of the Rings. Riders of Rohan.
I am so ready to hunker down and watch that trilogy again. Start to finish. So good.

music and motivation

(FYI -I know some people don't like it when the music just starts and I know you are familiar with my blog so you have your speakers off OR you've already paused the music, which is not difficult because I have purposefully kept the player close to the top so it is easy to pause for those of you who are at work or don't like my music selections. I have to tell you, however, that for most (not all) of my posts I search for a coordinating song to make the reading a multi-sensory experience. Like, when I did that half-marathon and had "Chasing Pavement" by Adele on there! That was a quite clever pairing. I was pleased with myself on that one.)

I have been struggling with getting back into the swing of exercise. Ugh. Just not doing it. My excuse was that it was too cold. Even inside. Lucky me I live in the south now and on Monday it wasn't too cold anymore. So I put on my new 'slickdeals' runners, put in my headphones and headed out the door. As I was running along I was trying to decide WHAT IS MY MOTIVATION? As I began thinking about what would keep me out there week after week the song "Everything I Do" by Bryan Adams began playing in my ears (and can in yours too if you turn on the player to your left!) and I chuckled and sang aloud (in my head) to those things I had deemed
My Motivation:
Pants.
I bought these right after that stint of exercise for the HM. And now they are quite snug! Darn the yummy food/cold weather of the Christmas season!
Heart Health, of course...

I guess, chocolate in general, but that cookie sure looks good! And if you are exercising it gives you a little more leeway when it comes to treats. I like the treats.

The kiddos and the Hubs. Duh.

But, yeah. You know...the pants were running alongside me throughout the song. I was singing to the pants. "Look into my eyes, pants. Look into my eyes."

I want those pants comfy! No WAY I threw that $ away.

Music is fun. I LOVE it when the right song comes on at JUST the right moment.

Tra la la.

(Does that song give you butterflies? Remember? It's one of those 'brings back memories' songs.)

curtains anyone?

My Mom got me a new sewing machine for my birthday and I have been using it! My first curtain panel wasn't too great. So I was a little (a lot) discouraged (and cranky), but when my second panel turned out fabulously I felt a lot better. I lined them with this real life liner fabric. I have four more panels to sew for the little windows on the side. Yea! It's fun to make stuff that actually turns out well.

Isn't that fabric beautiful? I love looking at it. Now I just need to find some more awesome fabric and re-cover a love seat and chair and a half. I wonder if that is hard? I found some tutorials on-line that make it look not too tricky. But then again, the tutorial for these lined curtains said she could make a pair of panels in a night and it took me pretty much the whole day (-ish) to make one panel. Soooo...

AND it is pretty cold outside. BUT it is supposed to warm up to 62* by Saturday.
LOVE THE SOUTH!

Wanna see the curtains again?
K! Here you go:

Don't Look Melissa! It's a surprise.

Yesterday was my awesome sister-in-laws birthday!
She's the beauty on the bottom of the picture of the sisters.
She is fantastic. And thus deserves a tremendous birthday gift.
Something practical yet unique.
Sorry it is a little late.
It should arrive in 5 to 7 days.

Brian found it and we couldn't pass it up.
You understand. It was a great deal.
(Well, I know Alisha will.)

Deal of The Day!
(01/30/2009)

5 lbs. of pens (approx. 265 pens)

Great Deal!
While Supplies Last!

Isn't that fabulous?! Everyone uses pens! How fun! What a surprise - just plunge your hand in the box and who knows what kind of pen you'll get for the day! Keep life interesting, I tell ya! I am so excited for her to get this. I just know she'll love it! I hope they all work. Might be kind of a lame-o gift if she got a box of 265 pens that didn't work. But, no...of COURSE they'll work. I know they will.
Way to go, Brian! You know how to find them. Squeeeeee!
Happy Birthday, Melissa!

facebook tag

I unknowingly spent my precious "last hour before the kiddos get home from school" typing this up. I didn't know I was taking that long. I thought I was flying through it and would still have time to sneek in an online episode of "The Mentalist" before 3:00. Wrong. So - I feel that the fruit of my "precious hour spent" should be viewed in more places than one.

Behold and beware. After you read this you will be my best friend (because nobody should know this much about someone NOT your best friend) and with that obligation comes great responsibility. Just kidding. I think that line is from a movie. Cassy will know which one. My guess is Ever After.

Here are the rules:
Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits or goals about you. At the end choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

1. I love chocolate.

2. I love to read anything good.

3. When I was in grade two (second grade) we moved from Calgary, Alberta to Littleton, CO. I had a red knit toque with a pom pom on top. (In Canadian English, "toque" is also a common alternative spelling of tuque (IPA: [tuk]), a knit woollen winter hat, originally worn by French-Canadians but now a staple of the Canadian winter wardrobe.)My second grade teacher couldn't understand what I was talking about when I said I had to get my toque and she made me spell it for her and she wrote it on the chalk board and I felt very special and super cool - you know cause I was from another country and all. Then the next morning a kid at the bus stop grabbed my toque off my head and when I tried to get it back he pulled my pom pom off. I ran home crying and missed the bus.

4. I have two sisters and 1 brother and 3 half brothers. They are all very funny and awesome and skilled and I love them terribly. I wish I knew one of my half brothers a little better and that we all lived closer so we could spend more time playing. So fun. Their spouses are fabulous too.

5. I have 4 kiddos that are very entertaining.

6. I met my husband playing basketball. My roommates in college told me to stop studying and carried me off to this dudes house to play a game of b-ball in the gulch. I was SO not into sports and never really played basketball. I got the nick name "cricket" that night because I just jumped around all over the place trying to look like I knew what I was doing. That's the first time I met Brian. All he remembers about that night was that he made some kind of an awesome dunk over some other guys head. Whatever.

7. I served as the women's basketball coach for our church team when I lived in Michigan. That was a funny calling. I felt pretty cool thinking that maybe I played better than I thought I did and 'someone' was impressed. I was told that it was because they needed someone who could make a lot of phone calls and get people there. So. You know...I bought myself a new clip board and made a lot of phone calls.

8. uh...25 is a lot. K- number 8: My front teeth are quite sensitive. I don't like ice cubes in my water. And I'm also not really a fan of the lemon wedge.

9. I like to watch T.V. My new favorite show is The Mentalist.

10. I'm pretty social. I need to have close friends.

11. I am SOOOO excited that my family can be together forever. That it's not 'till death do us part. It's for all eternity.

12. I have had many close friends named Heidi. Here are 4 of them listed by the city in which I met them: Calgary - dark hair and she had warts on her fingers. Denver - She was great! Fun times. She had a pet pot bellied pig, fabric covered bedroom walls, got paid, by the bag, to mow her lawn, and ended up going to a different high school than me. Michigan - The most energetic fun girl. Loves to read and is so good with kids! Alabama - great cook, wonderful to talk to and heaven sent.

13. I don't like cleaning my house. But love having a clean house. Constant inner turmoil there.

14. uh...hmmm...I became lactose intolerant shortly after my third child was born. Thus putting an end to my nightly bowl of ice cream. ugh.

15. I love the color orange. And I love owls. and chocolate.

16. I would love to become the "world's leading expert" on something. Like feta cheese or dung beetles. Something that I wouldn't be bothered too often about, but every once in a while would be quoted or interviewed. "According to Corrie Dewsnup, the world's leading expert on purple pansies, (insert something tremendoulsy interesting about little purple pansies that nobody really knew before but will definately be talking about for the next few days.)" and I can wear a white lab coat once in a while. That would be cool. Do some research and experiments...

17. One of the best feelings is to climb into a well made cozy bed with clean soft sheets and a fluffy pillow at the end of a long day. Mmmmm...

18. AND another best feeling is when one of my kids sits on my lap and snuggles right in. Perfect fit. Love that.

19. I don't really like deep water. Like in a lake and especially NOT the ocean. So spooky. It is so crazy to be out in the middle of a large body of water with nothing but a jet-ski or canoe under you. Just hard to wrap my head around all the space under me until solid ground. Oh man, I'm feeling a little queezy.

20. Brian and I think we may end up living in North Carolina one day. I've never been there, but it seems like a nice place.

21. The one Star Trek invention I wish was for real is the transporter. Could you imagine. How AWESOME would that be! Not that I watch Star Trek. Well, all right. I do. I actually really like Star Trek. But don't ask me any specifics. I'm in it for the entertainment and the cute bald captains. I don't really wish it were true. Well, mostly.

22. I really like walking in the woods. So fun. I NEVER imagine I am helping Frodo get to Mt. Doom with the ring, dodging the crow spies and throwing magic pine cones at the pesky chattering sneaky squirrel spies that seem to be following our every move!

23. Whenever I say "I NEVER" I usually mean "sometimes I do, but so what. Don't be a judger, beam in your eye." But sometimes I do mean never... 'cause I never eat after 7 pm. Just kidding. Not that one. Let's see. I never...uh, really want to clean my toilets. And I never will dye my hair blond. And I never drank alcohol. And I never want to be a race car driver or a gastrointestinologist or meet Dr. Gregory House - I think he'd make me cry or I'd feel so sad for his pain and hug him and he'd say something mean and I'd cry. Or I'd stick my tongue out at him. But I never do that any more.

24. I secretly wish I was a mom of four(check) with a cute dark haired finance guy for a husband(check), a world leading expert that can transport where ever I feel like going that day and could step on a calorie burning button placed just inside my pantry door that would activate a 'whole house cleaning mechanism' that never misses the corners. And that I could eat ice cream and creamy soups without any major repercussions to myself or others who may be in near proximity to myself.

25. I am a happy girl. Thanks mostly to the gospel of Jesus Christ, my family, and a little bit to chocolate.

I am tagging everyone because I want to be your bestest friend. And I want to know if you watch Star Trek or have lactose problems. Thanks.

all I got for ya

This is it...
It's all I got for this week.
Check this post out.
It made me laugh.
